Now:

When I look at this piece I think of the old inspirations that planted the idea for it, especially Darrel Anderson’s excellent illustrations for the Shadowrun Virtual Realities sourcebook. I also see many weaknesses in technique, particularly camera placement, lighting, and texturing. Though it was definitely still a fun piece to make.

Then:

Another of my long-time interests, the idea of cyberspace, which I loved to daydream about ever after reading books like Neuromancer and role playing games like Cyber Space and Shadowrun. Finally, when I started playing with stuff in 3D, I was able to create my own representation of a cyberspace landscape. The two vertical elements could be some sort of shielded heavy data lines, with various data cubes floating in the background. The windows were an idea I got from Reboot, which was a great cartoon.

This is another image done with Corel Dream 3D 6, after my Fountain project. The modeling methods available made it very difficult to create complex shapes, so I found the head geometry on a web site offering free 3D resources. The only other item of note here is that two of those little windows contain images that were my original 2D pixel paintings (as in pixel-by-pixel, in Corel Photo-Paint 4), which were the very first images I created with my pc.

This image was created in November of 1997.
