Murder
Now:
What still interests me in this image is the attempt to tell a story. Most of my earlier pieces were either abstract or lacking any suggestion of a story, but here I started to imagine a narrative and fit this image into the puzzle. I was originally planning multiple images in a series that would tell more of the story, before software woes bade me move on.
A small detail: Vengeance Vineyards is the name on the wine bottle’s label. I never said that I wasn’t an amateur in both technique and direction at this point in my artistic development (and it’s a question today whether I’ve moved beyond this stage). Though it was definitely fun during most of the making of this image, which counts for a lot.
Then:
The idea for this unfinished image was one of a series of forensics photos from the scene of a murder. Red blood mixing with red wine and the red rose… but I’ll let you put together the story (which, from this image, might be difficult considering it is unfinished).
My first attempt at something approaching realism, I started this project right before I got the upgrade to Corel Draw 8 and its new version of Corel Dream 3D. After the upgrade, I was having some odd problems with the software that made it very tedious to continue working on this image. One of the primary things that got left out was the bathroom mirror, which might have shown a reflection of the chalk outline, or perhaps some clues as to exactly what happened on that fateful night.
This image was created in February of 1998.
