Hallway
Now:
A very simple piece, this is probably the most basic modeling I’ve used in a rendering. It might have been fine, but the materials and lighting don’t feel like they do enough to add significant interest to the basic modelig setup.
On the other hand, I think I still enjoy long perspective shots. This was made before I had experience using depth of field, and it might have been nice to see some of that employed here; I have to admit I have a soft spot for distance and compositions that pull the viewer into the frame with great depth.
Then:
The basement of my dorm building at college had a dreary hallway down to the laundry room, with an uneven floor like this one. The walls were actually concrete, not the stone I came up with here, and there was never any mist or giant pipes the length of football fields, but I think I still imagined it something like this.
Done in 3D Studio Max, my intent was to explore a dark and grimy setting, and to learn more about the software. I tried out the different fog effects (even a little combustion, though it wasn’t right for this scene), and used several stock materials for the pipes, while the walls use some textures that I cooked up in Corel Texture (which can be neat sometimes, if the Max procedural textures aren’t doing the trick).
